About our Doctors

Jane Hughes, M.D., Joseph Paviglianiti, M.D. and Eric Pennock, M.D. are Pediatric Ophthalmologists, that is, medical doctors who have received additional training in the field of medical and surgical care of the eyes and the visual system. They have an understanding of the eyes and their interaction with the other functions of the body. Pediatric Ophthalmology is a subspecialty of general Ophthalmology in which Drs. Hughes, Paviglianiti and Pennock have received additional fellowship training about eye problems specifically affecting children.  Included in this training is the evaluation and treatment of adult eye movement disorders, adult strabismus and adult double vision.

Michelle Anderson, O.D., F.A.A.O. is a Pediatric Optometrist. She completed her training in optometry and received additional residency training in pediatric optometry and binocular vision, with a special interest in vision therapy, children with special needs, pediatric eye disorders and adults with strabismus.

You should be aware that besides caring for patients, the physicians have a teaching role at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and each doctor holds a clinical faculty appointment with the School of Medicine. In addition to teaching, several ongoing research projects on both the local and national levels are being conducted by members of this practice in conjunction with other faculty members at the University of Pittsburgh.
